A "Sports Hostel"

Soccer field

Due to the numerous sports facilities available on the hostel’s grounds, the hostel has received a special accreditation as a "Sports Hostel" from the German Sports Union.  Far from the city bustle, surrounded by fresh air, you can experience a forest idyll.  Rushing brooks, wild game reserves, and marshlands rich in biodiversity are all characteristic of the Harz Mountains. With this kind of setting, our hostel is ideally suited for school groups, training camps, seminar groups, and music groups, but is also a fantastic destination for family vacations.

Historical information

hunting lodge

Carl Wentzel, a large property owner in his time, had a hunting lodge built here, which has been preserved and today forms part of the hostel.  In 1944, the former mayor of Leipzig, Goerdeler, is said to have sought shelter here after the failed assassination attempt on Hitler.  When the Gestapo (secret police) found out about his whereabouts, Carl Wentzel was held responsible and condemned.
